Wingfield Basin bears the name of Lieutenant David Wingfield RN who first sounded the bay in 1815 with Captain William Owen. He was a member of the Royal Navy's pioneer hydrographic survey of the Georgian Bay coast.

Located on the beautiful Bruce Peninsula, Cabot Head Lighthouse can be reached by turning east off Highway 6 on the Dyers Bay Road. Follow the road through Dyer's Bay and bear right for the shore road to Cabot Head... follow it to the end.
