Although our site continues to be closed for 2018, the Friends of Cabot Head have important news to report!
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) is conducting a remediation project on the Cabot Head Lighthouse site beginning at the end of August or early September, with a planned duration of 60 days. The project is being overseen by Public Services and Procurement Canada.
Planned activities include lead and mercury containing paint abatement, asbestos abatement, soil remediation and site restoration. These actions are precautionary in nature and will result in a tourist destination that will be both safe and beautiful. During the remediation work, the site will continue to be closed to the public.
The Board of the Friends of Cabot Head is excited to see the start of this important project and we look forward to reopening the Cabot Head Lighthouse in 2019!
We need new members and would love to hear from you!
